Blue Sage Naturals was one of the first 'green companies'. Beginning in 1991 and on the web in 1995. In business, we've always been herbal, green, organic. As the founder I was 'green and herbal, when being green wasn't 'cool'.
Way back when, I [Janine] had tendonitis in my elbow. I found a product, lobelia extracted in alcohol. That's the same stuff that's in syrup of Ipecac, the stuff that makes you throw up. But externally, WOW, it's a huge relaxant. Well, I thought and prayed and thought and prayed, how can I make this into an oil or something that will go further? So I finally found a place to buy the herb and stuck a bunch in some oil. I was selling an MLM company's herbs at the time [1990], so I went to the herbal training they had, with Master Herbalist Steven Horne. He told me the way I did it, is exactly how it's done, just that I put more herb in it than usual. Well, I started selling it on the train to work [Sacramento, Ca] and to massage therapists and others. One gal said it took away her migraine when Advil didn't help. People kept asking me if I was a massage therapist. I wasn't, so decided to take classes to become one. Finished that in 1993. [Roseville Healing Arts Institute]. Being an outdoor girl more than an indoor girl, I've loved plants and rocks and started seriously getting into herbs in 1979 while raising my son. Trying to find something other than Ritalin. [turns out ritalin was what he needed and it did not affect him as an adult] Back in the '80's I made 2 snack products that were sold in my local health food store, called Solomon's Snacks. One was hulled sunflower seeds prepared a certain way, packaged with a scripture from Psalms in it. I also made organic, sugar free snack bars the store sold. I eventually got out of that business. I've studied under Steven Horne, Master Herbalist, Renee Shahrok, Ethnobotanical Professor at American River College as well as DQ University, a Native American University and other, lesser known people. I formulate products for myself, family, friends and some customers that have a skin care need. If it works for me/us, I offer it to you on the site. Some things I will always have, like the Chronic Relief™ Oil and Lotion because it works so well for us. I don't jump on bandwagons. I march to my own drum and the beat says our skins don't need unnecessary chemicals, or wildly expensive products to look its' best. I don't add anything to my products to make them look good, everything I use is for a purpose. I make excellent products and put them in plain packaging because my customers are more important to me than lining my wallet. My customers know I care about them and their families. To me, this is what makes a good business. Caring about people, using excellent quality ingredients, trying to help people and their skin problems, praying for my customers and over everything in this business.
